Exploring Colombo Fort 2019

The Colombo Fort area offers a plethora of Portuguese, Dutch and British heritage including such iconic buildings as the GOH - the Grand Oriental Hotel which is directly opposite the Colombo Port, the iconic Cargills department store, the general post office and other heritage building that are slowly undergoing restoration. A true marker of the diverse history of Sri Lanka's past.

A walk through this older part of Colombo offers an insight into the colonial past when the city was at the height of British rule. Once a bustling commercial centre, it is now a shadow of its former glory, but still a fascinating area to explore.
